Join with us as we focus our attention on our mission and the work at hand: to advance the nation’s environmental, economic, and energy security by supporting local actions to diversify transportation fuel options. On Monday, January 26, Louisiana Clean Fuels will host its Annual Stakeholder Meeting, highlighting 2025 accomplishments and looking ahead to emerging transportation technologies and programs, featuring a special presentation by Dave Schaller, Director of Special Projects at the North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE).
Dave will share insights from NACFE’s Run on Less freight efficiency demonstrations, including the latest Run on Less – Messy Middle results. In these real-world showcases, fleets with conventional diesel, natural gas, battery electric, hydrogen, and biodiesel trucks operated on real routes and delivered real freight — with striking lessons for efficiency, operations, and total cost of ownership.
Why this matters for Louisiana fleets:
- Run on Less has consistently demonstrated that even diesel fleets can achieve significantly higher fuel economythrough commercially available efficiency technologies and best practices — some trucks showed 10+ mpg on long haul routes, with certain runs exceeding 12 mpg.
- Natural gas trucks in the Run matched diesel performance while hauling high gross weights, showcasing how modern alternative fuels can deliver diesel-like torque and productivity.
- Across powertrain types, the data offer practical insights every fleet can adapt, from aerodynamic upgrades and idle management to duty-cycle optimization and fuel choices.
Dave’s presentation will connect these real-world findings to practical strategies for Louisiana’s freight networks, including port operations, regional haul corridors, and return-to-base fleets — helping attendees translate Run on Lesslessons into actionable planning for 2026 and beyond.
The meeting will also include a brief update from Louisiana Clean Fuels on coalition activities, technical assistance opportunities, and upcoming projects tailored to local fleet needs.
