As fuel prices continue to impact household budgets, Louisiana Clean Fuels is encouraging drivers to take control of their transportation costs through its new #PainAtThePump campaign. As the founding coalition of the Clean Transportation Network, LCF launched the social media initiative to spark conversations about simple, practical, and even unconventional ways people can save money on fuel while reducing emissions. Although Louisiana Clean Fuels works year-round to educate about alternative fuel vehicles and clean transportation technologies, the campaign also highlights that drivers of conventional gasoline vehicles can make a difference through everyday fuel-saving habits.
The campaign invites coalitions, community organizations, and individuals to create short videos and share their own stories. Participants are encouraged to share practical tips ranging from carpooling and riding public transit to reducing idling, biking, walking, and improving driving habits. The campaign toolkit emphasizes authentic, relatable videos that show real people sharing the transportation strategies that work best for them.
This is a collaborative national effort through the Clean Transportation Network. Across the country, Clean Cities and Communities coalitions and partner organizations are encouraged to join the challenge by posting their own videos and tagging one another using #PainAtThePump. The Clean Transportation Network's social media channels have helped amplify the campaign by reposting and highlighting partner content, allowing audiences to see a wide variety of fuel-saving ideas from different regions. In tandem, Louisiana Clean Fuels has contributed instructional videos, humorous skits, and public service announcements that demonstrate everything from idle reduction and efficient driving to alternative transportation options, making the campaign both educational and entertaining.
The campaign also showcases local transportation partners who are helping residents find affordable ways to get around. Organizations such as the Commuter Krewe and Clean Cities and Communities (CC&C) coalitions in the Clean Transportation Network, are sharing resources that encourage transit use, bicycling, ridesharing, and other transportation alternatives that can help reduce fuel costs. Rather than focusing solely on clean vehicles, the campaign reminds participants that every trip presents an opportunity to save money, whether that means turning off the engine instead of idling, sharing a ride with coworkers, or simply planning errands more efficiently.
Getting involved is simple. Record a 15- to 45-second vertical video sharing your favorite fuel-saving tip, post it on social media using #PainAtThePump, tag the Clean Transportation Network and your local Clean Cities and Communities coalition, and invite others to share their own ideas. Whether your solution is practical, creative, or humorous, every post helps build a growing community dedicated to keeping more money in drivers' pockets while encouraging smarter transportation choices.
