What is Workplace Charging?
Workplace charging is the process of installing chargers at one's organization, providing free or affordable charging for employees. Workplace charging can help demonstrate a commitment to an organization and its employees to reduce emissions and exhibit leadership in adopting alternative fuel technologies.
There are many resources that companies can use to plan workplace charging initiatives, including the Clean Cities and Communities Workplace Charging Toolkit.
For the last three years, Clean Cities Georgia has participated in an initiative called EMPOWER Workplace Charging to encourage more charging availability at the workplace. Studies show that offering charging at work can increase EV adoption, offer an employee amenity, and show commitment to sustainability goals.
Workplace Charging in Louisiana
Port of NOLA has been ahead of the curve, integrating electric vehicles into their fleet for over ten years. The first workplace charging was installed in 2015 for fleet vehicles. Their fleet has used Nissan Leafs, Chevy Bolts, and after market F150 PHEVs. In 2022 they installed four Level 2 Shine EV charger ports exclusively for their staff in their parking lot, allowing employees and fleet vehicles to charge while at the office. As you can see from the photo, it worked!
Port NOLA also took another step and received an Electric Vehicle Adoption Leadership (EVAL) Silver award/certification for their administration building, which is a newer certification for electric vehicle charging at work.
