Transportation Data Points: Let's Take a Deep Dive Into The LA EV Registration Data - Make/Model/Year

Posted by admin on Feb. 3, 2026  /  Electric Vehicles  /   0

February, 3, 2026 - Louisiana’s most common EVs reflect a market that is both maturing and expanding. The Top 10 models include early-generation vehicles that remain on the road, alongside newer plug-in hybrids and electric trucks that are driving recent growth. This mix suggests EV adoption in Louisiana is no longer limited to early adopters, it’s being sustained by practical vehicle choices that align with how people already drive. Combined, these 10 models account for ~44% of all EVs registered in Louisiana.

Top 10 Electric Vehicle Models in Louisiana (as of 1/31/26)

1. Louisiana’s EV Fleet Is a Mix of “Early” and “Current-Gen” Vehicles

The Louisiana Top 10 list spans multiple EV generations, which is important context:

  • Tesla Model 3 and Chevy Bolt EV/EUV include a large share of 2017–2022 model years
  • Wrangler 4xe, Sportage PHEV, Pacifica PHEV, Grand Cherokee 4xe skew newer (2021–2025)
  • Cybertruck is almost entirely 2024–2025

📌
Why this matters: Growth isn’t just coming from new buyers, it’s also being sustained by long-term ownership and resale activity, which signals a maturing market rather than a short-lived trend.

2. PHEVs Are Carrying a Lot of the “New Buyer” Weight

Four of the Top 10 models are plug-in hybrids, and most are recent model years:

  • Wrangler 4xe
  • Sportage PHEV
  • Pacifica PHEV
  • Grand Cherokee 4xe

Together, these account for ~17% of the entire EV fleet.

📌 Many Louisiana drivers appear to be entering the EV market through newer PHEVs, especially in suburban and rural areas where charging access varies.

3. Tesla’s Lead Is Built on Longevity and New Models

Tesla dominates the Top 10, but for different reasons by model:

  • Model 3: longevity + affordability + used market
  • Model Y: newer growth + crossover popularity
  • Cybertruck: early-adopter demand + pickup culture

📌
Important nuance: Tesla’s share is not dependent on one vehicle or one buyer type, it spans sedans, SUVs, and trucks, and both older and newer model years. That’s a strong signal of brand loyalty and longevity, not just early adoption.

4. SUVs Clearly Define Louisiana’s EV Preferences

Eight of the Top 10 models are either:

  • SUVs
  • Crossovers
  • Trucks
  • Family vans

Only two are traditional sedans (Model 3, Bolt EV).

📌 Louisiana’s EV adoption is not being driven by small commuter cars,  it’s being driven by vehicles that match existing buyer preferences and habits.

5. The Bolt’s Continued Presence Signals Affordability Still Matters

Despite being discontinued, Chevy Bolt EV and EUV still rank in the Top 10.

📌Despite being earlier-generation models, these vehicles remain in active use, indicating strong longevity and owner confidence and also suggest a strong used-EV market.
