The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have released the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Grand Challenge Roadmap Implementation Framework. This document outlines the current federal capabilities, programs, and areas where further efforts and public-private partnerships are needed to achieve the SAF Grand Challenge’s goals of advancing sustainable fuel technologies.

Jeff Marootian of DOE emphasized the framework’s role in fostering a bioeconomy that benefits rural and agricultural communities, while cutting emissions and supporting the growing SAF industry. USDA’s Dr. Chavonda Jacobs-Young highlighted the importance of scientific innovation and interagency collaboration in driving progress toward sustainable aviation fuels. The initiative aims to expand economic opportunities for farmers, businesses, and rural areas while advancing environmental sustainability in aviation.
