TRANSPORTATION DATA POINT (DECEMBER 2021): Impact of Idle Reduction in the U.S. Has Steadily Increased Over Last Decade

Posted by Clean Fuels Intern on Jan. 24, 2022  /  Transportation Data Points  /   0

Over the last 10 years, Clean Cities stakeholders have steadily increased the amount of fuel saved from idle reduction measures, with an increase of over 10x from 2007 to 2019. In 2019 alone, Clean Cities stakeholders reduced their fuel usage by 45.5m gallons of gasoline (equivalent). This massive reduction in fuel usage comes with a corresponding reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; every gallon of fuel not burned is money saved and emissions avoided. Idle reduction is an easy way to save money and reduce vehicle emissions by simply training drivers to turn their engines off when they're at a stand-still. Most of this idle reduction is through driver training or on-board technologies that automatically shut engines off when idling.

You can learn more about various idle reduction technologies and about the benefits of idle reduction programs on the Alternative Fuel Data Center.
