Transportation Data Point (June 2021): Louisiana EV Adoption vs. National Average

According to IHS Polk data, the share of Electric Vehicles (EVs) registered in Louisiana is 0.08% compared to the national average of 0.49%. Compared to other states, Louisiana ranks 47th in the nation in EV adoption, factoring in charging availability as well as pure adoption.
To incentivize adoption, Louisiana has had a tax credit for the purchase of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) including EVs since 2012. As of newly passed legislation this month (Senate Bill 8), the sunset date for this tax credit has been accelerated to July 1, 2021, which means vehicles purchased on or after that date will no longer be eligible for this tax credit. SB 8 will take effect on July 1, 2021.
